UMF™ (Unique Manuka Factor) is a trademarked certification system that assesses multiple naturally occurring markers found in genuine New Zealand Manuka honey. By measuring more than one marker, the UMF™ system helps verify authenticity and provides a broader classification of each batch.
MGO (methylglyoxal) refers to the measurement of one specific compound within Manuka honey and is expressed as a single number. Some jars display UMF™, MGO, or both to help consumers understand how the honey has been graded. While MGO indicates the level of one compound, UMF™ reflects a multi-marker assessment used for certification.
